Choosing a Bike: a Guide for Beginning Biking

Mountain Biking

If you are willing to take on biking seriously then the first thing you will need to consider is to look for a proper bike. Initially you won’t be taking up a professional bike but a bike that is good enough for the basic biking purposes. It is important to go with the basic bikes as the professional ones are a bit heavy duty and you won’t be able to learn properly on them. So the first thing you need to do is to get the right bike by considering the following factors:

What kind of biking you want to do?

Basically when we talk about biking we are referring to mountain biking. Now, mountain biking itself is a vast sport which incorporates different styles. So you need to know what type of biking you want to do in order to select the right bike. Some examples of mountain biking styles are cross country racing and smooth trail riding.

What is your budget?

Once you have determined the style you want to go for the next thing is to do some research on the bikes available and set a budget. It is important that you go to buy a bike with a predetermined budget or else you will go over your budget by the various showy bikes you will get to see. Also, as this is your first bike do try and go for the most inexpensive one. Usually, bikers give a tough time to their first bikes so with an expensive bike you can cost yourself quite a lot.

Finding a dealer…

Finding the right dealer is important or else you will be a victim of bias marketing. If you know someone who is a biker ask him or her about a good dealer or ask them to accompany you to the store. This way you can get a better buy.

Types of mountain bikes:

There are two types of mountain bikes that you will get to see in the markets; hardtail ones and full suspension ones. Basically, hardtails are recommended for newbie because they are comfortable and lightweight. Full suspensions on the other hand offer a better road grip and bike grip. Full suspension bikes are more effective but are better for professional bikers.

Knowing some brands:

Of course you cannot go shopping, try every bike and then select the best one, like you do with cell phones! Before you go out you will have to know a little bit about brands. You need to know about the good and bad brands before you buy a bike.

Get some necessary components:

As said earlier, if you go with an experienced biker he will tell you which components are necessary in the bikes and are used most often. If you can’t buy an expensive bike you can at least modify a normal bike with some good components. Brakes, paddles, etc. are important for every biker and only an experienced biker can tell you which company offers the best ones and how to use them in the bike.
