What Kind of Swimsuit Should You Use?

There are usually two schools of thought when it comes to swimwear: either you slap on a normal bathing suit and go out for a quick dip, or you try to find the absolute best in swimwear to optimize your performance. But depending on what you want to get out of swimming, you might even fall somewhere in the middle. Here is a quick guide to choosing the kind of swimwear that’s right for you.

First, you’ll want to consider the brand and reputation you’re buying from. You can’t always expect to know first-hand exactly how high-quality a specific piece of swimwear might be, but if you’re buying from a brand with a good reputation, you’ll at least have a starting clue. For both male and female swimmers, understanding the brand that you’re buying from – and even its competitors – will help you make a better and more informed decision.

Also, when considering the brand, remember that a brand shouldn’t be the only factor in your decision. After all, what if a swimsuit made from the same material is being sold cheaper by a less well-known brand?

It’s also important to consider the function you’ll need out of your swimsuit. Are you only taking swimming lessons in order to gain a basic knowledge of the strokes? Then you might simply opt for a recreational swimsuit. Are you a swimmer at the high school, college, or professional level? Then you might want to find something that you feel you can really practice in. Some swimmers might want to keep their swimsuit as consistent as possible so that their swimwear is no longer a variable in the way they train.

Next, what fabric is the swimsuit made of? Some fabrics or swimsuits are more chlorine-resistant and might last you a longer time if you’ll be in and out of a pool as opposed to open water.

There are more than just one or two variables involved in choosing swimwear, but if you’re a swimmer, that’s part of the fun. Ask yourself some crucial questions about your swimwear in order to choose the best swimsuit for you – or, if you’re feeling indulgent, try buying a few for different uses. Ask yourself what you really want to get out of swimming, and what kind of swimwear can help you to achieve your physical fitness goals.
